Given the success of this enigmatic but gorgeous mansion in St.-Julien, we may be witnessing a resurgence in quality, or at the very least a lot more consistency. The rich and delicious dark ruby/plum-colored 2003 Beychevelle is a gem in an up-front, silky, sensual manner. It’s medium to full-bodied, with a lot of fruit and glycerin, and it’s a lot more approachable than most wines, but it’s also generously proportioned and really well-balanced. Drink: 2009-2022
